The first of our 'Skate with the Roller Girls' series was a success. Fans and derby hopefuls got a chance to meet the team and skate with featured skater, Sofa King Ninja. Ninja is a mom, bartender, and US Army Soldier by day, and a powerful blocker and jammer for WIRG by night. When asked what she loves about roller derby, Ninja says, "I really love being a part of the Whidbey Island Roller Girls because we inspire women of all ages with this hardcore, crazy sport. Young girls and women look up to us, and not just because we're ninjas on our skates, but because we are proof that you can be tough, strong, beautiful, and classy all at the same time. That is something I love being a part of." We will be holding our second open skate on Friday, April 24th at 6 PM, at the Roller Barn. This is a great opportunity to meet and skate with the team, and learn more about our upcoming Boot Camp and Home Bout. Event costs $5 to get in, and is open to all ages!
